DEACONS
Our Board of Deacons consists of willing hands and willing hearts to do God’s work. The Board of Deacons had a full compliment of Deacons (15) during 2007. Our Board of Deacons is divided into four ministries—briefly their responsibilities are:
The MEMBER CARE Ministry sends College Care packages and oversees the Deacon/Elder member care lists.
The CHARITABLE OUTREACH Ministry coordinates volunteers to TASK each month (www.trentonsoupkitchen.org); delivers our Food Pantry donations to HomeFront (www.homefrontnj.org) or the Hopewell Council of Churches; sends a monthly birthday cake to the Triumphant Teens group at HomeFront and responds to community emergencies
The WRITING AND CORRESPONDENCE Ministry sends out cheer cards including cards at Easter and Christmas; writes weekly prayer cards; sends SPLASH newsletters to families with children from birth to 3 years of age. (www.augsburgfortress.org/education/splash)
The SPECIAL NEEDS ASSISTANCE Ministry provides receptions following funeral services and any other reception as needed; delivers Easter lilies, pumpkins, and Christmas poinsettias to homebound members and to members who have lost a family member during the year; arranges transportation to and from church for any member needing a ride.
A very special thanks to the many members of the congregation who have willingly assisted the Board of Deacons with our various outreaches.
The Presbyterian Book of Order states that: “It is the duty of the deacons, first of all, to minister to those who are in need, to the sick, to the friendless, and to any who may be in distress.” (G-6.0402) The HPC Board of Deacons through their ministries seeks to carry out those responsibilities. We care for the members of our congregation and reach out to those in our greater community.
