“Serve one another with whatever gift each of you has received" II Corinthians 9:12Mission: Bring the world to Hopewell, send Hopewell to the world. Vision:
Part of our calling as disciples of Christ is to share with those in need. In addition to our annual benevolence giving to Presbyterian Disaster Fund and special offerings like One Great Hour of Sharing during the Lenten season, Hopewell Presbyterian Church (HPC) also actively supports projects close to home and in our extended community. These include: Valley of the Pines School; Parramos, Guatemala Trenton Area Soup Kitchen (TASK) Every July, HPC commissions a group of hardy souls to travel to a place of need and use their gifts to work in an area troubled by poverty or natural disaster. This has translated to rehabbing homes in Virginia, West Virginia, and upstate New York. Our Mission Trip is open to anyone 14 years of age and older, and we are proud that our ratio of youth to adult is 1:1. In addition to those handy with hammer or paintbrush, we also need cooks and clean-up crew. The 2008 mission trip from July 6–11 was a great success. HPC returned to the North Country of New York under the sponsorship of Ministries in the North Country(MINC). We took along 34 members and friends of HPC, 19 youth and 15 adults. We made our “home” in the Presbyterian Church of Chaumont, NY and ate our meals in the Catholic Church two blocks away. In four very busy days we were able to work on six different homes. Two were completely painted, siding and insulation was added to two other homes, and the two remaining homes had their roofs completed and/or painted. See the related pictures for this year’s trip. Plans will soon be underway for next year. Interested parties should contact the Outreach Ministry. One of the longstanding ministries of HPC is our Divorced and Separated Support Group. The non-denominational meetings are moderated by Jill Young-McMurchie, a graduate student at Rutgers University and our youth leader. The door is always open and new members are welcome. This group meets Thursday evenings at 7:30 p.m. in the small church lounge. “Preach the gospel at all times, and when necessary use words.” St Francis of Assisi For more information about any of the above outreach opportunities, please contact outreach@hopewellpres.org. |
