Outreach
“Serve one another with whatever gift each of you has received" II Corinthians 9:12
Mission: Bring the world to Hopewell, send Hopewell to the world.
Vision:
- In all that we say and do, we proclaim the grace of Jesus Christ, the love of God and the fellowship and comfort of the Holy Spirit.
- We support ministries that do their work in the spirit of Jesus and are financially accountable and responsible.
- We support ministries that require our time, talent and treasure.
- We support ministries that deepen our solidarity with those in need – for we are also in need.
- We pray that our work would be part of our worship and loving service.
Part of our calling as disciples of Christ is to share with those in need. In addition to our annual benevolence giving to Presbyterian Disaster Fund and special offerings like One Great Hour of Sharing during the Lenten season, Hopewell Presbyterian Church (HPC) also actively supports projects close to home and in our extended community. These include:
Valley of the Pines School; Parramos, Guatemala
Trenton Area Soup Kitchen (TASK)
Every July, HPC commissions a group of hardy souls to travel to a place of need and use their gifts to work in an area troubled by poverty or natural disaster. This has translated to rehabbing homes in Virginia, West Virginia, and upstate New York. Our Mission Trip is open to anyone 14 years of age and older and we are proud that our ratio of youth to adult is 1:1. In addition to those handy with hammer or paintbrush, we also need cooks and clean-up crew. Last summer 32 youth and adults worked for Habitat for Humanity in Lynchburg, VA and were guests of St. Andrew Presbyterian Church. For our 2008 Mission Trip, we return to Mission in the North Country (MINC) in upstate New York.
For our 2008 Mission Trip, we are returning to Ministries in the North Country (MINC) in upstate New York. Those interested in joining us should contact the church office and pick up a registration form. The deadline for registration, with a $25 non refundable deposit, is due May 1, 2008. While total cost is $220 per person, the Outreach Ministry is helping defray the cost by donating $100 per person to MINC, and the Youth Fund has been asked to cover the remaining youth costs over the initial $25 deposit.
One of the longstanding ministries of HPC is our Divorced and Separated Support Group. The non-denominational meetings are moderated by Jill Young-McMurchie, a graduate student at Rutgers University and our youth leader. The door is always open and new members are welcome. This group meets Thursday evenings at 7:30 p.m. in the small church lounge.
